FaxSender is a print (Chooser) driver to use with the CommuniGate System. It employs the same Address Books panel as the CommuniGator application, and it can be used with any application that supports printing. When "FaxSender" is selected in the Chooser, using the Print command in any application results in "printing" of the open document on a remote fax machine.
In order to avoid switching between your regular printer driver and FaxSender, you can have the "FaxSwitcher" extension installed. After you installed FaxSwitcher, select the FaxSender in the Chooser, and you'll see the Option button which allows you to set the special-keys combination. You can set a combination, select your regular printer driver again, and close the Chooser.
Now, if you press the selected key combination when choosing Page Setup or Print from an application File menu, the FaxSender driver replaces your regular printer driver and allows you to fax from an application without going through the Chooser.
There are two versions of the print driver: a non-networkable (FaxSender) and a networkable one (FaxSender Network). If you plan to send faxes from the same computer that runs the CommuniGate Server, you should install the FaxSender driver on that computer. Install the FaxSender Network on all other computers on your network.
To install this print driver, drag the the FaxSender/FaxSender Network and the FaxSwitcher icons and drop them on the System Folder icon. Finder will route them to the Extensions folder.
The Page Setup dialog
The Page Setup dialog box allows you to specify scaling and orientation of the fax pages to be sent.
Note that converting landscape-oriented pages into the fax format can take some additional time.
The Print dialog
The address books panel is automatically open when the FaxSender Print dialog appears. Fax is the only address type available in that panel. Select addresses from address book(s) and add them to the Recipients list by clicking the To button. Pressing the Option key changes the To button into the Cc button, pressing both the Option and Shift buttons changes it to the Bcc button.
To remove addresses from the Recipients list, select them and click the Remove button. You can open and close the address books panel by clicking the Recipients button.
Priority
To assign a priority to one or several addresses in the Recipients list, select those addresses and choose the priority level from the Priority menu. All addresses added to the Recipients list later will be assigned the priority level set with the Priority menu.
Delayed delivery
To delay delivery of a fax message to one or several recipients, select the addresses in the Recipients list and click the Send at button. A small dialog box appears and allows you to
specify the time when the message should be sent to the selected addresses.
Resolution
Faxes created using the "Standard" resolution are approximately twice shorter, so they are transferred faster. The "Fine" resolution provides better quality. The Grayscale setting sets the fine resolution, but fax pages are composed producing a high-resolution grayscale image. That image is then converted ("dithered") into the black-and-white fax format.
Cover Pages
You use the Cover Page menu to select one of the Cover Pages stored on the CommuniGate Server. When a cover page is selected, the Note field appears and allows you to enter the text to be placed in the message (and the cover page) "Subject" field. When None is selected in the Cover Page menu, the Note field is not available.
Preview
If you select the Preview option, a dialog box appears on your screen each time a new page is composed by your application. The dialog box shows the message in the form it has been composed, before converting it into a fax image.
Archive
Sending a message with the Archive option selected is the same as using the "Save Letter on Server" option in the CommuniGator application: faxes remain on the server, in your Out Box even when they are delivered to all recipients.
Receipt
If a fax message was sent with the Receipt option selected, the Return-Receipt option is generated when the message is delivered to its recipient.
Default settings
Some applications do not preserve print options, in this case the default options are used. You can change the default options (page size, resolution, priority, etc) by selecting the desired options in the Page Setup or Print dialogs and clicking the Make Default button.
